So we are slowly finding ourselves surrounded by needs as we get to know people. We decided we would throw some of them on here. Obviously, this isn't intended to pierce your hearts with guilt. We just thought if any of you are feeling like helping some people or projects these are a few that are presenting themselves.
1. The clinic/midwife's house is reaching the end of it's budget. The existing building was two floors. The first floor was the midwives husbands families house. The second floor was the clinic/midwives house. Basically they just built a third floor on top so that the midwife and her family could have their own space. Most of the money was raised by some past students. It looks like they will have the cinderblock walls plastered and the roof on. That will leave no stairs to get to the third floor, no windows, and no paint I am unsure about plumbing and electrical. There are a few guys that are working on this project that will be without work in a week. So I guess the options are pretty broad. We could give to materials or hire some of the laborers(about 8 dollars per day) to stay on for another week.
2. Our neighbor approached us to help her find sponsor so she could move to Canada. My impression of sponsorship was just red tape and paper work but she was hoping to find someone to help her with her final year of nursing, as well as helping her move to Canada and finding a job. I suggested the option of finding someone to lend the money until she was working in Canada then she could repay it. I think she would love either option. They live right next to us, and seem like great people, they are always loving our kids with candy. I know by Filipino standards they are not really poor. This really only means that they have a few adults living in the house with secure jobs, so food is never an issue. Six adults and two kids in a two bedroom house that is about 350 -450 sq feet. So again lot's of options here too, I know I do not have time to figure things out so it would be a matter of me giving her an e-mail address and she would have to pursue it from there.
3. The clinic is always in need of medical supplies as well as iron and prenatal vitamins. After every weekly prenatal visit each women gets enough pills to last until her next visit. The clinic technically has a suggested fee for each birth that rarely gets paid in full. So a good chunk of our tuition makes up some of the difference, the other supports the midwife's family.

Hi J and T,
I was sorting through my basement this evening and I am ready to purge and have one heck of a charity garage sale in about a month or so for the clinic!!! If anyone else out there in Winnipeg wants to donate stuff, I will post again in a month when we set a date!
