Difficult week

We have had so many moms and babies that we have had to transport this week, One story I will share with you since I was there to help carry her out. She was a young single mom who was in labor for about 3 days. She slowly progressed and finally had the baby on our birthing stool. The baby came not breathing and with weak heart tones so they worked on it for half and hour until it could breath on its own. They had to suction the sweet thing as it had aspirated meconium. After this, the young mother began to bleed and lost about a litre of blood. Once they got the bleeding slowed down we transported her and her baby to the local hospital where she is now. Our midwives and friends are up there now caring for them, as with no one to watch over them and buy the appropriate things. The baby is not doing well so for those of you who believe in the power of prayer please pray that this little baby makes it. The mom received a blood transfusion and is looking much better, but they have not let her hold her little baby or breastfeed, as they think she is too weak.

I have so much more respect for my wife and the midwifery team here, as they transported this young mom through tears of their own. We said many prayers together then the team members who stayed behind began the process of cleaning up all the bloodstained sheets and mopping the floor, as we all knew that the next birth could be on its way. Such a busy place and yet it is still full of compassion!! I am so proud of our team here, may God's compassion pour out of them, and become tangible to our patients through their gentle words, and loving touch!
